Last Friday, Earth Light hosted a wonderful event, “Stress, Hormones, and Spirituality” where Anne Fischer Silva shared her knowledge about how our body responds to stress and hormones.
Stress comes from various factors such as your diet, physical, emotional, and biochemical issues. She reminded us that working too much, multitasking, money, negative thoughts can have an unsatisfying outcome on our bodies mentally, while factors such as unhealthy relationships, death, divorce and feeling lonely can hurt us emotionally. Chronic pain, auto accidents, lack of/over exercising, and surgery are associated with physical stressors. Biochemical stressors can be environmental toxins, toxic livers, infections, anemia, mold, allergies, inflammations, or EMFs.
Hormones are what gets us excited. They help us stay balanced while regulating our metabolism, biological clock, and glandular secretion. Hormones are in charge of our growth, development and reproduction. Cortisol, one of the hormones discussed, allows you to deal with stress. You simply cannot live without it! It improves your digestion, boosts your energy, eases joint movement, and enhances the immune system. DHEA was the second hormone featured in the lecture. It is the “feel good” hormone as it builds things up and improves muscle movement.
Towards the end of the lecture, Anne gave some insightful tips of what we can do to reduce our stress. When it comes to our diet, eating real food that is local and in season is suggested. Discovering your metabolic type is also a helpful way to stay on track. Most importantly, we should be MOVING! Anne said, “eat mindfully less and move mindfully more”.
Closing the night, Melissa Dubin conducted a meditation in which the women of the group discovered the power of healing a mind through our spirit. We can send positive energy to our bodies to promote healing with our every day stressors. In closing, it is important to take quiet moments for yourself each day to reduce stress.
